Every year about 1,500 hardy rowers pack their cold weather rowing gear and head for Turin, Italy for the d’Inverno sul Po. This head race holds a special spot on the racing calendar, especially in Italy, and this year was no exception.

High point of the year for rowing’s juniors

The final day of the 2011 World Rowing Junior Championships in Eton Dorney, Great Britain was squashed into the morning after inclement weather was predicted for later in the day. This worked out well for the rowers who got to enjoy relatively flat water but had to deal with unpredictable cross-tail wind gusts.

Following on from yesterday’s finals, seven more finals were raced and at the end of it history had been made for Ireland in the women’s single with their first ever junior champion medal. Romania has come back to press Germany for the top spot overall and Germany, again, had proved their strength at the junior level.
