History
University rowing is at the core of our sport. The oldest organised competition of an Olympic sport is the famous Oxford-Cambridge University Boat Race, which started in 1829. Many current elite rowers first began rowing at university. Given the importance of university rowing to the world of rowing, FISA signed in 2007 an agreement with the International University Sport Federation to cooperate in the oversight of the World Rowing University Championships and other related university events in order to ensure their success.
